Intuition?

It's said that faith isn't a feeling. And neither is love. That faith and love are decisions. Hmm. I don't know if that is true, but isn't it much nicer to feel? It makes faith and love so much more real...to me, anyway. To me, feelings are the proof. I feel, therefore I know...

So what is intuition? Webster's defines intuition as "immediate and instinctive perception of a truth." I have also heard intuition defined as "inner knowing."

A few days ago I had an intuitive urge to give one of my paintings, a small St. Francis icon, to a woman I barely knew. Come to find out she has other saints in her home. She told me she had a St. Anthony statue who fell off the shelf and lost his head. She never found it. Ironic, since he is the saint who helps us find lost things. Also synchronicitous, as I had just that morning mentioned St. Anthony in my blog post. It seemed like, and felt like, my intuition to give her the icon was right.

But what is intuition? Is it a subtle course correction from the Spirit? A nudge in the right direction? A voice? Or all those things?
What does intuition feel like, sound like, say? Is it desire? Warning? Different things at different times? Where is it located in the body? Does everyone feel it? What does intuition mean to you?

J'essaie d'écouter mon intuition, et à chaque fois je ne me trompe pas trop. L'intuition féminine, comment faire sans elle!
Je pense qu'il faut une certaine sensibilité pour avoir de l'intuition.

Oooh intuition is my little warning bell! For me it is a feeling - mainly for my own emotional protection. I always always listen to my intuition - it's saved me many times! My intuition is my third eye, my inner ear. I trust it implicitly.

Yay that you gave this woman your St Francis painting - it was meant to happen!!

Take care

A very thought provoking post. I am sure as the day goes on I will think and think again about this post. My initial thought is that it is those moments when we are in total harmoony with everything around us. When we are going with the Chi. When this happens we just know what to do and what is right.

I never recognize intuition until I've 'gone off' in the other direction and then I say 'I had a feeling I should not have done so'. Is this intuition, I don't know? Perhaps Ralph in his response has the answer.
But Love .... yes, you can't fool me on that one. It is a feeling of joy, of happiness, of being complete. I don't know about anyone else, but without the feeling of 'love' I know I am incomplete.

Ralph! welcome back! i dreamed last night you would visit and comment, and that we were watching abstract art, blue and gray, unfold on the screen above our blog posts...

ruby, i do think regret may be a response to having ignored intuition...hmm...20/20 hindsight as they say

Like Old Kitty, for me intuition is a "warning" bell, or also sometimes a "thought." As, just wait, or do this.

You came over and commented on my snow poem. I'm glad you liked it, and I hope you're having a wonderful day! I love your blogs. They're both beautiful, as are you.

For me, it's a moment's peek into my subconscious. Just a tiny glance to tell me I'm in familiar territory. It's like a little kid, tugging at it's Mother's skirt. OK, you got my attention.

intuition as a child who wants attention...nice metaphor, Manzanita!
